The sweetest music this side of heaven

Remember when Big Bands toured the country? When music had a melody? When that special person laid her head softly on your shoulder? Join us as we travel by luxury motor coach back in time to the sounds of the music that was like no other. We will hear the lyrics that wooed her and swept her off her feet, sang by a tenor or baritone voice that was able to get gently inside your heart not thump your chest with a deep bass tone because the volume was too high. Sure the lyrics often told of a broken heart or a lost love separated by oceans or time but it was real and the lyrics like the times reflected that era, that romance, that morality, and that American Spirit that was "The Big Band Sound". It was a time when "Johnny had marched off to war" perhaps not to return but lie in eternal rest in a land he had not heard of until just before being laid into that peaceful rest with his name known only to God. Then "Johnny came marching home again!" torn inside by what he had seen and endured to make at least most of the world free needing the lift that loved ones and "that sound" could provide. Though the war drums were closer than anyone knew now was the time to be lifted and be revitalized by the "Big Band Sound".
On August 7th we will step back in time at least for a few hours as we travel to the world famous "Surf Ballroom" in Clear Lake, Iowa to enjoy the "Big Band Sound" performed by one of the greatest of all big bands "The Guy Lombardo Orchestra". Through the magic of music we will return, if only for a while, to that era that so inspired a country for decades to come. Call the Indianola Activity Center today at 515-961-9420 for information on how to reserve your seat.
